Get Involved
Get involved with your chapter: A chapter is only as strong as its membership, and the IUB-AAUP chapter is a member-led organization that is shaped by your concerns. Active members define the chapter’s advocacy and action by working together on shared goals.
- Join our email list to stay connected, learn about issues and events, and receive updates on your chapter’s actions.
- Participate in chapter meetings and events announced on our website and through our email list. Add your voice to conversations, get to know your colleagues, and join us at social events.
- Recruit new IUB-AAUP members by asking your colleagues to join. Downloadable AAUP posters for your office doors and buildings are available on this website. Feel free to contact us for strategies and talking points. Consider asking your department chair to invite someone to speak about the AAUP at a faculty meeting.
- Contribute your knowledge and expertise to the work of your local chapter. There are many ways to get involved for those able to fulfill a leadership role and for those able to find a few hours in their busy schedule each semester. In addition to the elected Executive Committee, we have positions open in a range of activities, from serving on Committee A to working on the website and other media platforms, doing legal or quantitative research, working on policy issues, helping write letters, organizing events, and so on. Or if you have other ideas, reach out to us.
Get involved in the Indiana State Conference of the AAUP: A state conference is formed when several chapters in a state decide to work together to advance AAUP policies and goals. Through a state conference, existing chapters increase are able to have more influence statewide, and new chapters find support and guidance they need closer to home. The Indiana Conference of the AAUP promotes cooperation among AAUP chapters at Indiana institutions of higher education. It works for the betterment of higher education in the state through promoting academic freedom, shared governance, and the rights of faculty.
Get involved in national AAUP activities: Consider attending an AAUP meeting or conference, which are held frequently throughout the year.
